ARTIST BIO

I was born in Oxford, U.K in 1982 and my interest in art began at a very early age. Like most kids my main focus was drawing all manner of subjects from observation and imagination. Once I reached my teens I started to paint using watercolours and gradually gained confidence from family, friends and fellow artists who encouraged me to develop my skills. I'm mainly self-taught but really grateful to other artists and friends who inspired me in those early years.

A lot of my inspiration came from artists such as Camille Corot, Peder Monsted, Renoir, Monet, Cezanne and Picasso. I was also influenced by aviation artists such as Frank Wootton, Robert Taylor and Wilfred Hardy. My favourite artist is Giovanni Canal (Canaletto).

I took a hiatus from painting after leaving school through to my late twenties due to work commitments in the U.K and around Europe. As a skilled general builder I completed many property renovation projects in Spain, Germany and all over the U.K. My work involved projects on some historic buildings along with occasionally working in conjunction with English Heritage. My work took me to London for many years where I eventually became a certified applicator of Venetian Stucco (polished plaster).

A short holiday to France in 2010 inspired me to take painting seriously again, so I began to refine my existing techniques and learnt how to paint using acrylics. This versatile medium helped me create new effects in my work. After a few years I began to regularly exhibit my work independently in the South of England and Spain. I eventually exhibited at county exhibitions where my work was award winning.

After refining my skills in acrylic I really wanted to take things a step further so I began to concentrate on oil painting. This was a very satisfying move because it allowed me to produce work on a highly detailed, fine art level. My aim is to produce high quality, highly detailed work that varies in dynamism and subtlety depending on the subject.
